Currently Sucking at Halo Wars Campaign

I suck basically. Well, not completely true. I just suck at the campaign mode on Heroic difficulty (I know, not even legendary). More notably, the ’06 – Dome of Light’ Mission. It really is tricky. You have to get tanks to marked places on the map while trying to keep the previous ones alive and protect your base from unlimited purple laser things (not really that into Halo as you can probably guess).

However, I am having a lot of success online, winning almost all of the matches i have played so far. It’s the old technique I like to call ‘Build a load of big billy bad ass fuck off Vultures and blow the enemy to hell’. Seems to be working so far.

It’s defiantly a worthwhile game to play, so if you haven’t already picked it up, you should give it a spin.

Super Excited About GTA IV ‘The Lost and Damned’

Long time, no post.

I just wanted to say that my excitement for The Lost and Damned is definitely peaking now. At first, I was pretty uninterested in the whole thing, but that was for one, little reason: I’d forgotten just how good GTA IV is. Recently it’s all I’ve been playing, doing all the side missions that I had just left after completing and they’re really fun. Plus I’m adding to my gamerscore for my troubles.

I wasn’t sure about a story centred around bikes… I mean, bikes give you no protection from bullets and nearly always seem to kill you if you so much as touch the kerb. However, with improved bike handling and a more forgiving damage system, I feel a lot more comfortable with the idea. More bikes and 3 new cars/vans are good, with a handful of weapons added as well, but I can’t help feeling that a few more might have been better (wishful thinking).

And as for the multiplayer, well, ‘Witness Protection’ sounds just awesome. Kind of like ‘Cops and Crooks’ only with a new twist. ‘Chopper vs Chopper’ sounds interesting, a bike vs a helicopter…is that really going to work? I guess we’ll find out on Tuesday. Can’t Wait!

Why I Hate the New Xbox Live Experience

It’s shiny, it’s new, it’s flowing. All good things, but change isn’t always a good thing. I used to enjoy the good old days of jumping onto Live and getting into a massive arguement with some noob on COD 4. Sadly, those days are over. It’s all because of the NXE featuring a party mode. Because of this, people are talking outside of the game, there is no longer a sense of team spirit that would have warned you of a claymore, or a sneaky sniper. Instead of bringing gamers together, I feel the NXE has alienated those that enjoy using in-game chat for what it’s meant for; helping to open up a whole can of whoop ass on the enemy. The long and the short of it: nobody talks any more.

Bring back the good old days of the Xbox blades…

Yes to Yes Man!

I think simple films are the best. You just can’t beat the old format: boy meets girls, girl likes boy, boy likes girl, problem occurs and breaks up the relationship, problem over come and boy go out with girl. Nice. Sorry if I just wrecked the ending to just about every film by the way.

‘Yes Man’ followed that format and I came away feeling like I’d just spent £4.90 on a pretty worth-while two hours. I may be a little biased though, as I seem to like just about every film that Jim Carrey has ever been in (apart from ‘Fun With Dick and Jane’ – didn’t rate that). The film is really loosely based on Danny Wallace’s book ‘Yes Man’, and it was nice to see Danny Wallace at the bar drinking a pint towards the end of a scene.

I think everyone that watches the film leaves the cinema feeling as if they should be more positive; shouting ‘YES!’ to the world. I mean surely that’s gotta be a good message for viewers. It’s better than going home and trying to work out if your name adds up to 23…

Fake Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2 Beta

I’ve just been checking out FourZeroTwo‘s blog and read a post about a false Call of Duty 6 Beta. Someone has been sending out emails inviting people to join the Modern Warfare 2 beta. They include a redeemable code and everything. What the hell? I would love to get phishing scams like that!

The email reads:

Why Don’t People Ready Up?

Recently, I’ve been playing Far Cry 2, and I’m quite liking the campaign. To me the game seems very similar to GTA IV, except for it being in Africa. And I like GTA IV, so that’s a good thing.

There is one thing that does bother me about the game; multiplayer lobbies. I just don’t understand it, people don’t ready up! WHY? People just sit there, not readying up. And the game never starts. So why put the option of ‘going green’?

Why didn’t Ubisoft just take a leaf out of Infinity Wards books and just use a count down type system. That way you don’t spend all day on the Xbox and feel that you haven’t played at all.

Wake up people not readying up on Far Cry. You know who you are…or maybe you don’t…

And the Beast Keeps Running, Running and Running, Running…

My Xbox will die. I can feel it. It’s been coughing a lot recently, lots of funny noises that make me screw up my face and cover my eyes.

But, as the title suggests, it just keeps on keeping on. I must hand it to old Xbox, it really is a trooper. Occasionally, I would get a loud, unusual buzzing sound as soon as I turned the 360 on, but it wouldn’t happen very often. Now, I’m afraid to say, I get it everytime I turn it on. I have to turn it on, then off, then on, then off about five times before I can realax with a normal sounding Xbox.

Bought second-hand off eBay two years ago, it’s done well. But I fear it’s chips are up.

English Literature A Level – Why, oh Why?

Why do they do it to us? I took English at A Level because i enjoyed it at GCSE, but now I’m starting to regret it. The reason for my changein opinion is because I hate the texts we have to study. So far we’ve looked at ‘Spies’ by Michael Frayn (a really boring book), ‘The World’s Wife’ by Carol Ann Duffy (Feminist bullshit), ‘Top Girls’ by Caryl Churchill (NOTHING HAPPENS!? Random feminist bull) and the newest addition is ‘Maurice’ by E M Forster (a book about a man that discovers his homosexuality).

I mean come on. Who thinks “Right, lets get some books exploring the issues of feminism and homosexuality because 16/17/18 year olds are going to love those topics!”

No. Just No. There are good books, poetry anthologies and plays out there. These texts manage to taint what once my favourite subject. I’m sure I’m not the only one with this view.

Call of Duty World At War on Veteran is GAY!

I’ve been playing through World at War on Veteran. I’ve got all of the acheivements other than the last to levels on veteran and that’s where my troubles lie. I CAN’T GET PAST HEART OF THE REICH!! Ahhhhhhh!
Grenades, Grenades, Grenades. I didn’t know that during World War II the Germans had 10 billion grenades just waiting to be thrown at one soldier.

Seriously though, it’s so annoying. I can destory 2 out of the 4 artillery bases, but that’s where i get stumped.
Ah well, guess I’ll have to give it a rest and try Mile High Club on CoD4 for a while…
